The Crescent welcomes another new Patron
It is with great pleasure that we announce that CJ de Mooi has accepted our invitation to join us as a Patron.
CJ appears in the popular quiz show Eggheads, and has been a part of the programme since it’s inception in 2003. Since then, Eggheads has become a phenomenon, being sold all over the world and spawning 13 series, over 1000 shows, two spin off series and a sell out book and board game.
Such a long running successful programme gave CJ a popular public profile and after several years he decided to expand his horizons and move into other fields that had always held an interest for him. He was honoured to be elected as the President of the English Chess Federation in 2009 as he’d previously been an active player on the national tournament circuit including a couple of years where he played more games than anyone else in the country, winning the title of Mensa Chess Champion along the way. Competitive running was another ambition taken up and, never one to do things with less than total commitment, CJ now consistently enters half and full marathons with impressive results.
CJ is a Distinguished Supporter of the British Humanist Association. He has worked for several human rights and HIV charities but is particularly devoted to The Albert Kennedy Trust for whom he has arranged, and taken part in, several events. He has also been a spokesperson for gay equality and anti-bullying organisations and is keenly involved with animal welfare.
More information about CJ can be found on his website www.demooi.co.uk
Most recently CJ has also lent his support as a Patron to the Sussex Beacon which provides specialist care and support for people living with HIV, their website is www.sussexbeacon.org.uk where you can read about the wonderful work they do and their current fundraising appeal.
We feel very honoured and wish to thank CJ for lending us his support, please join us in welcoming CJ to The Crescent !
