This year will mark the 30th anniversary of the official recognition of HIV and AIDS as an epidemic by the American Medical Authority; the death of Terry Higgins, the first person in the UK to officially die as a result of HIV and AIDS, and the 25th anniversary of the formation of the National AIDS Trust.
According to the general public HIV and AIDS is seen in young homosexual males who live in densely populated cities in England.
The fact is that this view is wrong.
To change this Edo Zollo has created the “Stand Tall, Get Snapped” photo project. Opening at the Reading Room (see note 1 below) on the 22nd November, the exhibit will feature photos of individuals who are HIV Positive from different communities, with the hope to challenge the stereotypes associated with the virus.
According to statistics men who have sex with men and African-born men are most at risk of catching HIV (see note 2 below), but we would like to show that it is a virus that will infect regardless of age, colour, gender or geographic location: indiscriminately.
